Whereas the advancement of technology makes it possible for automated machines to conduct tasks that were previously done by humans, the human resource still remains one of the key resources in any work environment. In jobs that require high human interaction such as community development, peace building, children welfare, and Human Resource it is paramount for the personnel to be equipped for the roles. Possessing the relevant knowledge and skills, being in the right frame of mind, and having a pleasant personality comprise the best combination for working optimally with stellar results.
The special human resource
A human being, unlike machines, needs to be in the right frame of mind, as well as physical health in order to live quality life and execute duties that are geared towards the welfare of other human beings.
Self Awareness and Care
Self Awareness and Self Care are paramount to all personnel including peace-builders, HR, and children protectors. Given the different difficult and, sometimes, traumatizing incidences that these personnel handle occasionally or on a daily basis, awareness of self and others, as well as how to handle arising emotions in a healthy manner, is not and should not be considered over the top. In fact, proactive measures should be taken by the individual staffs and their employers (where applicable) to help the personnel deal with arising matters in a healthy manner
Self Awareness
Self awareness is the constant being in touch with one’s emotions, physical, and cognitive state. Being aware of one’s state is paramount to acknowledging not only one’s potential, but also one’s limitations, hence developing conscious efforts and or practices to achieve full potential while reducing exposure to or handling harmful aspects.
One of the tools that I find helps a person get in touch with him/ herself, beyond changing life/ work situations is Myer Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Unlike other personality tools and theories, MBTI, closely based on Carl Jung’s Analytic Psychology Theories does not confine a person to falling in one category or another; rather, MBTI presents a variety of scenarios from which a persons preference sways.
